From the Volkswagen affair to the « Dieselgate »
A year after, the rumour of the Volkswagen affair still resonates in Europe. Some ecologists think that this affair is only the tip of the iceberg. An opinion shared by the euro deputy Claude Turmes who is advocating for the abandon of diesel in Europe and particularly in Luxembourg, where carbon monoxide particles produced by diesel cars are causing over 60 deaths.
The NGO T&E (Transport and Environment) revealed, after several inquiries, that over 29 million diesel vehicles in Europe do not respect the European regulation concerning the pollutant emissions. Indeed, some fleet managers are cheating by manipulating the AdBlue injector of their diesel vehicles in order to avoid the additional charges caused by the full tanks of this fluid.
Dieselgate 2.0 ?
According to the website of the European transport and environment agency, German organizations have recently lifted the veil on an “industrial scale” fraud.
In a publication entitled « Emission scandal 2.0 », a German environmental association asserts that criminal networks organised in Est Europe and China, are furnishing to the black market software and equipment in order to manipulate the SCR system (Selective Catalytic Reduction) so as it injects less AdBlue. It is possible to read, in the same publication, that 20 percent of the trucks which use the German highways, are employing technologies which manipulate the system of nitrogen oxide elimination.
Those systems of manipulation are nowadays available on various markets such as eBay for amount inferior to fifty euros and the installation tutorials can even be found on YouTube!
