Vauxhall Zafira unveils its new 2.0 CDTI diesel engine, powered by AdBlue®
The Vauxhall Zafira’s new 2.0 CDTI diesel engine is as clean as a petrol engine
Thanks to Vauxhall BlueInjection technology, which uses Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to ensure compliance with the Euro VI standards on nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, the new 2.0 CDTI is as clean as a petrol engine. BlueInjection is an after-treatment system that eliminates the NOx in the engine exhaust. Small quantities of AdBlue®, a harmless liquid consisting of urea and water that helps limit these emissions, are injected into the exhaust-gas flow upstream of the SCR catalyst and downstream of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The solution is immediately transformed into ammonia (NH3), which is absorbed by the SCR catalyst. Nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the passing exhaust gas are then selectively reduced into harmless nitrogen and water vapour in a chemical reaction with the ammonia. This process can reduce the amount of NOx emitted by the Vauxhall AdBlue engine by up to 95%.
Where can I find AdBlue® for my Vauxhall Zafira diesel?
The AdBlue® tank is topped up through a flap near to the vehicle’s fuel filler flap. Currently, individuals can purchase AdBlue® in 5-l, 10-l or 20-l canisters, which are available at filling stations and from Vauxhall dealers.
