Peugeot diesel models and AdBlue®
Since 2013, Peugeot models using an SCR system that works with AdBlue® have been grouped under the name “BlueHDi”. Most diesel cars are now fitted with this system: 208, 2008, 308, 508 saloon, 508 SW, 5008, Partner and Traveller. The 108, which is great for city driving but only available in a petrol version, does not contain AdBlue® because this can only be used for diesel cars.
How does the BlueHDi system work on Peugeot diesel vehicles?
BlueHDi consists of a ‘mechanical’ particulate filter that works when the engine is warm or cold and an SCR system that, depending on the conditions, can remove up to 90% of nitrogen oxides produced by the engine. What makes Peugeot’s technology special is that this device is recognised by all manufacturers as the most efficient in terms of treating nitrogen oxides. It is also protected by hundreds of patents filed by PSA engineers.
In particular, the engineers came up with the idea of injecting AdBlue® into the gas upstream of the particulate filter. This enables faster treatment of emissions when the engine is started, particularly when it is cold.
What are the features of Peugeot models?
The process of installing the AdBlue® tank has been simplified, as each and every model has a 17-l tank. The warning system works in a similar way on all Peugeot models.
