Who monitors environmental protection around the world?
What are the most influential environmental organisations?
The most famous environmental organisations in the world are the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA in English) and the European Commission for the Environment. The role of these agencies is to define the standards manufacturers must meet in their respective regions.
The EPA and the Volkswagen scandal
The largest scam of the history of the automobile is also called the “diesel dupe”. In September 2015, the U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA) found that many Volkswagen cars sold in the United States had a software hidden in their diesel engine system that could detect test conditions, and thus adjust the quantity of AdBlue® dose to improve test results. The EPA therefore revealed that the software was modified on 3-liter diesel engines fitted on some Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen. The German automobile giant denied the allegations.
In November, Volkswagen said they had found “irregularities” in the measurement tests of carbon dioxide emission levels that could affect about 800,000 cars in Europe. However, in December, Volkswagen said that investigations had revealed that only 36,000 of the cars were affected.
A very hard blow for the German giant who is still struggling to overcome this crisis… To be continued.
